A bit of a lie in as we didn't need to get down to start a tour of the surrounding parts of the city until 9.30am. However we convoyed perfectly (well nearly aye Murray W-will serve him right trying to get in front but getting stuck at some lights while we all turned off :) ) down to the beach where we formed an impressive 18 car line up - not bad for a working day aye! Some really really nice examples of different models - I was personally very impressed with the 3000E - a favourite of mine of course!
We tiki toured around the outskirts of the city through to Lyttleton - it's an impressive sound when you get 17 Capri's in the Lyttleton tunnel - some especially noisy ones also testing their horns! Around through the little settlement of Lyttleton and as we were waiting to turn a corner one of the road workman asked for some information on the run and the club as he had a MKI in the garage - seems these Capris are hidden in many a nook and garage aye!
A winding and twisting journey heading towards Akaroa with a brief stop enroute for Bruce to patiently explain to Paul how a convoy is usually operated in the Manawatu, and then a stop at the Blue Duck Cafe (closed), a worried JP and Erica thought they may end up with a tow to the nearest petrol station and so then we went onto the Little Valley cafe where Becs and Warren purchased a very fitting wind direction meter (an aluminium shaped wine bottle with spinning corkscrew in top to show wind direction). Kylie managed to grab the only Capri painted postcards that were available and JP filled up his car with gas.
A lunch time stop in Akaroa for a couple of hours with a show off of cars (16 now-no idea where the 17th got to) and then a brief police visit just before we were to leave. We did wonder if this had any connection to Marian's black eye that she is now sporting!!!
We let Lyndsay and Pete go on ahead so that they could get a couple of awesome video shots of the all the Capri's curving their way around the hills. And then it was off to the accommodation to get ready for the night - by the way we are being picked up in stretch Limo's to be taken out for dinner!!! And if anyone is reading this and would like to join us for dinner it will be a Robbie's on Cranford.
I will update the rest of the night later. In the meantime I am continuing to update the Who's on Tour blog from a few days ago.
Ciao
